Building your keyword database

Starting out with a fresh, empty, database can seem like a daunting challenge, however AimStar attempts to make this as painless as possible. There are 4 major kinds of data you are going to be creating: People, Companies, Joborders (discussed on the previous page), and Keywords discussed here.

Displayed below are the Master Keyword Management Screen, and the Choose Keyword screen.

You see the full system hierarchy displayed in the yellow area, and the term IMS is currently being editted. The Keyword Maintenance screen is used to 1) import full keyword hierarchies, if desired, 2) add/change/delete keywords and their associated hierarchies, 3) rearrange keywords to best suit the needs of your firm, 4) generate a count-list, showing how many People, Company, and Joborder records have been coded with one or more keywords.

When performing keyword maintenance for People, Companies, and Joborders, the work is done with the screen above. Notice you can show the entire keyword hierarchy, and by highlighting various terms (and optionally, their owners, though it is not necessary), you can add the terms to the Person, Company, Joborder record. This system virtually eliminates keywording errors of all kinds. That is, if you take some time to develop a quality Hierarchy, then you keywording/skillcoding tasks will be virtually error-free.

When adding new records to the database - People, Companies, Joborders - you have the opportunity to add keywords at that time. Notice that the full hierarchical keyword list is displayed to the right of the data-entry area, and you only need to highlight a desired term (double-click on it), to add it to the list, which automatically adds all the higher-level terms. Again, errors are reduced to near zero.
